What is the y-intercept of a line through (-2,7) and perpendicular to the graph of y=-3/2x+6? HELP!

OpenStudy (azureilai):

Well the slope of a line perpendicular to another slope is the reciprocal opposite(kind of) of the line. ex. original line had a slope of 2 perpendicular line would have -(1/2) as slope So the slope of the new line in the problem would be 3/2. You can use point slope for to solve for y-intercept

Ok! but what about "perpendicular"? does it mean anything?

OpenStudy (azureilai):

Ther word perpendicular means the new line intersecting with the old line will make a 90 degree angle when it intersects, hence, the reciprocal opposite change in slope.
