Last question & really don't understand that well Create an equation that results in at least one extraneous solution. Work through your equation, justify each step, and explain how the solution is extraneous.
what class is this for?
what is your definition of an extraneous solution?
Algebra 2
tbh i dont even know what it is. isnt it something that equals the opposite or is negative?
it's a solution that the conditions of the problem don't allow
for example, if you know the area of a square is 1, then you know the product of the sides of the square is 1. there are two numbers you can square to get 1, 1 and -1. since you can't have a negative distance, the conditions of the problem don't allow the solution -1, so it is an extraneous solution.
@omgkelley you see?
Yes um..that got me even mor confused, im sorry
*more
sorry
No its fine, could you explain it a bit slower? :P
Or like differently?
problem: find the side length of a square with area x
s^2 = x you see how this makes sense?
but also (-s)^2 = x
Yeah i see
so the answer you would get is side length = ±s
-s is an extraneous solution because you can't have a negative length.
make sense?
YEah (: thanks!
any other questions?
Nope, i'm good for now. tahnk you so much tho :)
you're welcome
