Foreshadowing is a technique used by authors to describe an important part of the "back story." True False

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Fore is in front or before. Shadow... well, I think you know what it is to cast a shadow, but if you think about it a shadow is an outline of a person rather than a person. Add the two concepts: Foreshadow: An outline that comes before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so true

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, the back story is the things before what is happening, but does not really tell about what is going on. It is more like the setup before the story. Here is a nice place to get definitions of terms used in writing: http://literarydevices.net/foreshadowing/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really understand.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The back story is the background for the story. Like when they start a movie and they introduce the characters. Not the action, or the goal, or any of that, but the characters. And then they introduce some event that is going to cause everything to get into motion. Those are back story items.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is true because it tells shows the events in the trailer

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ah, but this question is saying that foreshadowing can only happen as part of the back story. What about half way through where you see the villain making a plan to exploit the hero's weakness?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In fact, one big clue is in the fore and back.... how would something about the future describe the past?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh false

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Now you get it. Hehe.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Foreshadowing can be part of the back story, but it does not describe the back story, which is what made it confusing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got real confused on it.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

np. Have fun!
