Suppose a given line has a slope of -2, what is the slope of a line perpendicular to the given line?

PLZ HELP ME

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's a rule It is the reciprocal (flip it upside down) and times by -1 So if you have -2 Flip it to get : - (1/2 ) times by -1 to get (1/2) Which is the answer

omg thank you :) helps a lot. i suck at these linear slope equations ! im good at math just suck at this kind of math

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Or the correct formula is \[m _{1}m _{2}=-1\] Where m1 and m2 are slopes of perpendicular lines.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That might be a more precise way of writing it, but I find it's a lot easier to remember (and to see what to do) in words.

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Right, but sometimes you get confused as I do. And the formula organizes me back. Just putting both options out there for Ashley here :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True :)

Lol yeah its hard to me. im n elementary algebra for college lol.. its super easy just these dang linear equations haha
