2.75 is equal to 2 3/4 and it's easier to write. so to set up the problem: (2.75 * 0.97) + (15 * 0.39 - .50) To explain: 2.75 is the number of pounds of black beans, 0.97 is the cost per pound. Multiplying them together will give you the total cost of the black beans. 15 is the number of tortillas, 0.39 is the cost per tortilla. Multiplying them together will give you the cost of the tortilla. The -.50 is for the coupon, which was off of the total cost of the tortillas. 2.75 * 0.97 = 2.6675 (round to 2 decimal places for money) $2.67 15 * 0.39 = $5.85 She spent $2.67 on black beans and $5.85 on tortillas. Total she spent $8.52
