How do you find the average rate of change for a function??? help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the equation: f(b) - f(a) / b - a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correction: it's called a formula, sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Average rate of a function: Example:f(x) = 2x + 7 The average rate of f from x = 3 to x = 7 is (f(7) - f(3))/(7-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

average rate of change can be over the whole graph or just a specified portion. it is essentially your slope at the examined portion or whole of the line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here is the actual problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(2) = 5 f(-1) = -1 Average rate of change is (5 - (-1))/(2 - (-1)) = 6/3 = 2
