How to find critical numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Critical Numbers of a function can be found by finding the derivative of a function, then setting it equal to zero and solving for all values of x such that the derivative equals zero. Also, the function has to exist at the point where the critical numbers are at. f(x) = (x^2 + 6x - 7)^2 Domain = {x | x = R} So the function exists for all x, so we do not need to worry about if it exists at a point or not.
