In which direction does the left side of the graph of this function point? f(x)=-x^4-x^3+4x-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the right side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so left is -6 and right is 6?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Does it go down as you go left, or up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so left is -6 and right is 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

down

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

No it's not asking for numbers... see the question "In which DIRECTION does the left side of the graph of this function point?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it goes down to the left and to the right

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

The reason is because x^4 will be positive when x is some large negative number... but -x^4 makes it negative so as x approaches negative infinity, y approaches negative infinity

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

and as x approaches postive infinity, y approaches negative infinity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect thank you

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Welcome :)
