Trigonometry Question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if \[\tan \theta= \frac{ 2ab }{ a^{2}-b ^{2} }\] find cos theta

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2ab, although im not sure that is the answer

OpenStudy (shamil98):

tan = sin/cos

OpenStudy (shamil98):

so cosine is a^2 - b^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shamil98 I don't think that is correct. What if sin = (a^2 - b^2)/b then cos = 2a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why divided by b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im leaning towards the other answer, because i had that first, but just needed to clarify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just saying that i think that the answer is: cos theta = (sin theta (a^2 - b^2))/2ab

OpenStudy (shamil98):

if you are solving for cos that is , @piglet9 , if he just wants to know what cos value is that is different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im giving the general answer for cos. Your answer could be right but COULD is not good enough in mathematics. It is more likely to be wrong.
