A certain bank assigns one unique number to each savings account. The amount of savings in each account depends on how much the owner deposits into the account. The interest paid on each account depends on how much money is in the account. Which of these relations is not a function? (interest paid, savings account number) (interest paid, amount in savings account) (savings account number, interest paid) (savings account number, amount in savings account)

OpenStudy (lena772):

@SACAPUNTAS

OpenStudy (lena772):

I like that you explain it! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't you remember the definition of a function? :)

OpenStudy (lena772):

Yes you said an input that has a one specific output and do not cross eachother on a graph, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. So think about it. Can two different accounts get the same amount of interest paid to them?

OpenStudy (lena772):

Possibly if they have the same balance, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct, so any relation with interest paid as the input and the account as the output would not be a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see if the interest is the same for both the accounts it is not a function .. because both the accounts get the same interest there is no concept of 2 same values in funtions now since the account nos are different and the amount in each of them would probably be different it is the last option

OpenStudy (lena772):

So the first 2 are wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops

OpenStudy (lena772):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nooooo! i meant the first second and the last one are wrong

OpenStudy (lena772):

Oh okay! Thanks again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
