guys i need some serious help. I just did this lab with a magnesium ribbon and i need the answer for one question: 1) If some Mg did not react, would your calculated Mg: O mass ratio be higher or lower? explain.
I think it may be helpful Magnesium is weighed and then heated in a crucible. It reacts with oxygen to produce the oxide. It can be shown that there has been an increase in mass
thats helpful but not rly the answer of the question :(
@ganeshie8 @abb0t
Loser explained it pretty well. What don't you understand about it. Or do you just want the answer?
i rly just need the answer would be great. i would usually ask for an explanation im just in a bit of a rush. Im a lil frantic because i have been home sick the past few days and my group is a bunch of idiots and i want to make sure the information they filled in for me isnt a whole bunch of crap
@Euler271 if you can, please help him. I know nothing about chemistry. hehehe. I searched and gave him what I had from google. I don't understand what I wrote
thanks for the help so far @Loser66
Hmmm....
my scanner isnt working im trying other means to post the wkst
id like to see that before answering actually. i don't want to say something that is wrong. i'm still unclear on the conditions of the experiment
i have something in clipboard to paste hehe
thats the best quality i can do under the circumstances guys. sorry if its crappy quality
did the image help any of u?
yes. simpler than i expected actually ^_^ since Mg and O react at a molar ratio of 1:1. if one less mole of Mg reacted, then 1 less mole of O reacted. Since 1 mole of Mg is heavier than 1 mole of O, the mass of Mg that didn't react would be more than the mass of O that didn't react [lol] Therefore, the mass ratio of Mg to O would decrease
can u explain in simpler terms y plz?
idk if i can. which terms are you unfamiliar with
molar ratio and mole
\[2Mg^{2+} +O_2^{2-} \rightarrow MgO\] elements react in moles: 2 moles of Magnesium react with 2 moles of Oxygen to make 1 mole of MgO familiar with Avogadro's number? that is the number of atoms/molecules in 1 mole. the number under the element on the periodic table is the molar mass. it is the mass of one mole of the given element. not sure if this question can be answered without considering the molar ratio in the reaction. i might not be the best to explain chemistry stuff :-X
honestly im not familiar with alot of the stuff u just said but i dont have time for an explanation. thanks for all the help though man
np. hope it helps you with the assignment ^_^
it does thanks alot
