OpenStudy (trantom):

How do you name a polynomial based on its degree and number of terms? For instance: Name this polynomial based on its degree and number of terms: 5y - 2y^2

OpenStudy (shamil98):

There are two terms so you call this a binomial, and the highest degree is ^2 from -2y^2.

OpenStudy (shamil98):

I forgot to mention it is a second degree binomial*

OpenStudy (trantom):

because it has a square?

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Yes. If you had a equation like x^3 + y^2 it would be called a third degree binomial, the degree is equal to the highest power.

OpenStudy (trantom):

k thanks :D
