Help please?? medals given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

finding the square root 11x^2=-5x^2-1

hartnn (hartnn):

add 5x^2 on both sides first, what u get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

group them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16x^2=-1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like hartnn said

hartnn (hartnn):

yep now you can take square root on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would i put 16x=i ?

hartnn (hartnn):

you take the square root of 16 too, right ? \(\Large \sqrt{16x^2}= \sqrt {-1} \\ \Large \sqrt {16}x = \pm i\) also don't forget the +/- sign...

hartnn (hartnn):

so whats the square root of 16 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

hartnn (hartnn):

yep, so final answers for x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so x=4i ?

hartnn (hartnn):

no...

hartnn (hartnn):

note that this is a quadratic equation, degree =2 so it must have 2 root/values of x we have 4x = +/-i so, 4x = i or 4x = -i so, x = i/4 or x =-i/4 got this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks a bunch! appreciate it!!:)

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
