simplified a variable expression as much as possible 4x+6+2y-2 ( I Get Confuse On What To DO With The x And y)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

do you have answer choices

OpenStudy (dobby1):

@hislady

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (dobby1):

hm does the question tell you to do it a certain way?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only simplified a variable expression as much as possible 4x+6+2y-2

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok then your answer should be 4x+2y+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why Cause It Kinda Confuses Me

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok the reason is you can not add 4x and any of the other numbers and you cant add 2y with any of the other numbers this is because they have variables and you cant add 4x and 2y because they have different variables but you can subtract 2 from 6 because neither have variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You :)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

in other words if you ever have a question with variables you can only add to numbers that have the same variables for example you cant add any number that has x to any number that does not have the variable x same for every other variable and you cant add any number that has the variable with any number that has the variable x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But WHat If Youy Have A Problem Like This 4x +8 *y

OpenStudy (dobby1):

and x^2 looks like this \[x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok so adding and subtracting and multiplying and dividing are very different with variables so you can multiply any number with a variable by any number so the answer to that is 4x+8y
