If you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new system of equations that would result if x was isolated in the second equation. 2x + 5y - 2z = -1 x + 3y + z = -2 3x - 2y + 3z = -17 Please help do not understand

OpenStudy (psymon):

Well, Im assuming it's telling you to solve for x in the second equation and then substitute that x value into the other two equations, then say the results.

OpenStudy (jack1):

hay @wolfman6642 when it says "isolate x" it means rearrange the equation so the x is on one side of the equals sign, and all the other values are on the other side

OpenStudy (jack1):

so in this case: EQN 2: x + 3y + z = -2 x = - 3y - z -2

OpenStudy (jack1):

now u can sub that into the others to find x y and z if u want, or use that as ur new series of equations as EQN 2a
