use the quadratic formula to solve the equation -4x^2-3x+2=0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

using the quadratic formula amounts to inputting the values it asks ... then working the basic math what part are you stuck on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please show work!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think im just confused on how to actually solve the problem after i input the values

OpenStudy (amistre64):

show me how you inputed the values then. then i should be able to determine how to proceed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure how to type the formula on this thing this is my first time on here

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ascii wirks just fine -b +- sqrt(b^2 -4ac) ------------------ 2a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i will try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a = -4, b= -3 and c= 2 ? so now i put it into the equation?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, you would insert those values into the "formula" to find the solutions

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-b +- sqrt(b^2 -4ac) ------------------ 2a -(-3) +- sqrt((-3)^2 -4(-4)(2)) -------------------------- 2(-4) 3 +- sqrt( 9 +32 ) ---------------- -8 3 +- sqrt(41) - ------------ 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yah i was just typing that, so its 3/8 +-sqrt (41/8) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative 3/8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-3/8 +- .... if i see it right

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yes thank you so much! you made it a lot easier to understand than my teacher lol! thx!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3/8 +-sqrt (41/8) ^^ might be a typo, but make sure you dont include that 8 into the sqrt

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3/8 +-sqrt (41)/8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ugh, forgot the - again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok i see! thanks yeah sorry about that!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)
