Since peanuts and cashews both cost the same amount, we can lump them together as one variable for simplicity's sake. Now think about the problem like this: if no raisins were needed (meaning every ingredient would have cost $2 per pound), the mixture would cost you $24. Now we need to also identify raisins as a possibility, which costs $1.50. For each pound of raisins we use, we have one less pound of anything else (since 12 pounds is kept constant) and we spend 50 cents less. The price $22.50 is $1.50 short from the scenario where every pound was $2. Can you tell me how many pounds of raisins we used going off of that logic?
3lbs? @Snowfire
Yep! Can I take it that you understood my thinking then?
@Snowfire haha yes you explained it well! thank you :)
Of course, good luck in your future problems. And by the way, this isn't how you would normally solve a problem like this. There is a good general solution to similar problems, but I figured this way made more sense.
