2. Which of the following best explains how the structure of ATP helps provide energy to the cell? (Points : 1) ATP contains energy in the chemical bonds between its phosphate groups. ATP contains energy in the chemical bonds between adenine and ribose. When the molecules that form ATP bond together, energy is produced. Many ATP molecules bond together to produce energy.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

ATP provides energy by breaking its bond between its phosphates. It will break off one phosphate, and the energy from the bond breaking will give another reaction energy. The ATP molecule is unstable with 3 phosphates, so it wants to break its bond with that third phosphate to lower its energy level... so when it finds another molecule that needs energy, it donates it by breaking that third phosphate bond.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

which do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the third one?

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

nope

OpenStudy (compassionate):

In addition, the phosphate groups are easily broken. It takes less energy to form the phosphate bonds and break them than the energy released. Energy needed to break < energy released. It's a great source of energy because of this. It means: Net energy > the energy loss

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

well that leaves you with 3 options. ill tell you if you're correct or not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first one?

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

:D yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thank you! :)

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

your welcome
