Why is the Supreme Court considered to be the most elitist and least democratic institution of the US government? Why has it been credited with advancing American rights, liberties, and freedoms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can change amendments or laws pertaining to the Constitution. Unlike the other branches, the Supreme Court is made up of any the judges and they are the ruling factor.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

The Supreme Court interprets the constitution and decides if a law is constitutional. It can not change a amendment but may broaden it with their interpretations as with the 14th amendment where they required each State to add the Bill of Rights to their constitution. Any Supreme Court decision can be overturned by themselves or by an Amendment.
