Have you considered raising both sides to the 3rd power?
i did then tried simplifying and got stuck
What did you get after the 3rd power? Please show your best work.
(-147+8)=(36+27x)
?? How did you get that? \(\left[(-7x + 2)^{1/3}\right]^{3} = (-7x + 2)^{(1/3)\cdot 3} = (-7x + 2) ^{1} = -7x + 2\) You should remember that what you have done is not valid. (1 + 2)^3 is absolutely NOT 1^3 + 2^3. Never do that again.
i cube rooted the numbers. as u can see im very confused. can u help me reach a final answer lol
i mean cubed not cube rooted
The whole point of the CUBE (3) was to remove the CUBE ROOT (1/3). Just remove it. \((-7x+2)^{1/3} = (4+3x)^{1/3}\) CUBE both sides \(-7x+2 = 4+3x\) Done! It's not any harder than that.
Not valid. Don't do that. \((7x+2)^{3}=(7x)^{3}+3(7x)^{2}(2)+3(7x)2^{2}+2^{3}≠(7x)^{3}+2^{3}\). You're missing half the terms!!
thans for explaining but i dont see the final answer in ym answer choices http://prntscr.com/20ny3b
-7x + 2 = 4 + 3x Solve for x. i would suggest starting by adding 7x to both sides. Please demonstrate.
i got 2=4+10x
Perfect. What's next?
divide both sides by 2?
That's what I would do. A couple more things after that.
2+5x then what lol?
Where did the left-hand side of the equation go? 1 = 2+5x Two more things to do.
subtract 1 from both sides
Don't you dare. You want to isolate the x. Why would you move the 1 over next to the x? Subtract 2 and you'll make a difference.
-1=3x
How did 5 turn into 3? 1 = 2 + 5x Subtract 2 1 - 2 = 2 + 5x - 2 -1 = 2 - 2 + 5x -1 = 0 + 5x -1 = 5x You cannot subtract 2 from 5x. These are not "like" terms!
o ok so the final answe wud be -1/5 ?
Not quite. It's still an equation. x = -1/5 Now THAT looks like a final answer.
o ok thank you so much :)
