A set of data is normally distributed with a mean of 28 and a standard deviation of 2. What is the probability that a value from the data is less than 22 or greater than 34?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The empirical rule for normal distributions states that approximately 99.7% of the data points lie within the range plus and minus 3 standard deviations of the mean. In the question, three standard deviations = 2 * 3 = 6. Therefore 99.7% of the data points lie within the range 22 to 34. Can you now find the probability that a data point lies outside the given range?
