Sherman's march from Atlanta to Savanna really destroyed a good portion of the South's economy. The economy of the South after the war was in shambles. The South had virtually no economy. It was a total wreck. Socially it was still a wreck. No one had much. Plantations had no worker now and life was hard. The South did get back on its feet by 1877 with the election of Hayes as president ending military occupation in the South. Most of the fighting during the American Civil War took place on Southern soil. In part, this was the result of the war strategies of both sides. To win the war, the South had only to survive. On the other hand, for the North to win, the Union had to be restored. Thus, Union forces had to conquer the South in order to win the war. War action around their homes created many hardships for Southerners. Civil wars result in large numbers of casualties and the expenditure of large amounts of resource. Economy is affected 'coz when the workers will make a Strike what will happen to the income of the workers it will only caused Shortage of Food, riots on streets & other part of the place.
