someone help me? I'll give a medal.

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

What is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i have to read two paragraphs and i have to find the main idea and compare the ideas but i have already done that i kinda needed help on these two questions 1. What is the effect of making these points in the order King has chosen? 2. How do these two paragraphs support King's claim that "Now is the time to act. ill post the two paragraphs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

paragraph 1. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law. paragraph 2. We can never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was "legal" and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was "illegal." It was "illegal" to aid and comfort a Jew in Hitler's Germany. But I am sure that, if I had lived in Germany during that time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers even though it was illegal. If I lived in a communist country today where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I believe I would openly advocate disobeying these anti-religious laws.

@snowxangel maybe you can help me?

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

Wait so it's a King that has said these things? And what is the Kings claim?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

martin Luther king @snowxangel

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

Simple, find the effect these statements have. What do you feel that he is trying to tell you or the people? It's quite easy to find the effect if you understood what you read. And by him saying "Now is the time to act" these support it by saying how he would have aided those Jews during WW2 but since it was illegal not very many people did it. So now is the time to act on getting equal right between blacks and whites, although it is illegal. If that makes sense. Just read it in depth and understanding, it'll come to you eventually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is he trying to tell the people that laws aren't always right? @snowxangel

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

Well not necessarily, he's basically saying that yeah sure it's illegal but that doesn't mean we should wait to do anything about it if we know it isn't right! He's kind of saying something like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you i totally understand it now, can you help me with one more and that will be it? @snowxangel

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

Ok :) I'm glad you understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok in this paragraph We must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right. Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy, and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity. can you help me explain what is the effect of stating his claim midway (paragraph 8) through the letter? and can you help me with what is the purpose and tone of this paragraph and explain how it works with the overall structure and purpose of the letter?

OpenStudy (snowxangel):

Well like I said before, finding the effect is easy. How does this piece right here effect the whole letter in terms of context and emotion? How do YOU feel when you read this and interpret it in contrast to the whole letter itself? The tone is easy, determination and hope. The purpose is to create a form of power and willingness that as whole country we can come together and "lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity." As for the explaining how it works with the overall structure and purpose of the letter, I would say put what you think. Like how this brings the whole letter together and really supports the purpose. I personally have never read the letter, so these are my best guesses. Keep in mind there are no right or wrong answers in English :) Hope this helped a bit.
