I have another one a little more complicated. x^3-4x^2+5x20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that 5 times x plus 20 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dammit....sorry. x^3-4x^2+5x-20. Sorry about that. Duh!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha, i got it! try pluging in small integers between 1 and 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, my TI calculator has a numeric solver that you could have used if you had a TI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I first answered this. I got (x^3-4x^2) + (5x-20). Then x^2 (x+4)+5(x-4). I was told it was incorrect. I need help please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the only error i see is x^2 (x+4) should be x^2 (x-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm....then if I go with that answer I'd have x^2(x-4)+5(x-4). Then shouldn't I keep going with it? Like say (x-4)(x^2+5) ? It Doesn't seem right? :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really hate algebra.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try graphing x^3-4x^2+5x-20 and (x-4)(x^2+5) you will see they are the same. You did a good job factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really? I cant believe I finally got it right. Thanks Matt!

I had fun with that one. Your welcome! :-D
