A solid hydrate weighing 2.682 g was heated to drive off the water. a solid anhydrous residue remained, which weighed 1.420g. Calculate the % water in the hydrate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just do mass water/mass hydrate times 100. Where the mass of the water is the difference in the weight after heating. (2.682-1.420)/2.682 X 100 to get to a percent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i got 47.05 percent water by mass
