What is the simplified form of...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ y^2 }-\frac{ 5 }{ 3y }\]

@ranga please help!

OpenStudy (ranga):

To add or subtract fractions you need to have a common denominator. Multiply the top and bottom of the first fraction by 3. Multiply the top and bottom of the second fraction by y. Subtract.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12y/3y^2 - 5y^2/3y^2?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Multiply the top and bottom of the first fraction by 3. 4/y^2 * 3 / 3 = 12 / (3y^2) Multiply the top and bottom of the second fraction by y. 5/(3y) * y / y = 5y / (3y^2) The denominators are the same. So you can subtract the numerator: (12 - 5y) / (3y^2)
