Just a suggestion: You might want to get rid of the "Government Securities" subtopic of Capital Markets and add a "Civics" topic since, apparently, most questions in said subtopic are questions about government itself (and not gov't securities). Also, "government securities" aren't a subtopic of finance, per se--especially not the way, say, "Algebra" is a subtopic of "Mathematics". Just a thought....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

BUT, if we got rid of the topic, many people would lose medals, questions, answers, etc. Their SS could go down, and people would not be pleased. It would be wasted time for them, and they would never get that back,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But again, most of the questions are totally unrelated to "Government Securities" and, frankly, as a subtopic, it's not particularly popular.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A lot of subjects, are not particularly popular. And I don't believe they have to be. BUT, if you see a question that is not necessary in that subject/sub-topic, tell them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Point taken. But if you look at the statistics, "Government Securities" only has only 32 questions and many (if not most) are regarding the subject of Government, not finance (compare that to the more than 800k in Mathematics). Thus, your description of the consequences of removing said topic (many lost medals, large declines in SS, intercontinental bedlam) seems a bit unwarranted. Just a suggestion...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

What Kfins99 is talking about is the fact that OS has used that basic logic to argue against the removal of anything. If they remove one it sets a precedent that removal is possible and acceptable. Then people demand they remove this, and that, and so on. Where do you stop? How many users will lose things? Also, the actions on here are meant to be a permanent record. Even the mistakes and putting things in the wrong place. These are records of people's abilities to follow rules. If you remove anything, you are removing that record.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree. And by removing the records, all of those people that were reported and such will no longer have that record (If I am right) Also, like E said, once you remove one thing, people will demand to remove more, so where would you stop?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Personally I would love if they added an archived bit to the database. If archived is set, a subject would no longer show up in find more subjects. Also, if you went into an archived subject the "Ask a question" would be replaced with an archived notice. So the areas would still exist for records reasons but new questions would not be put there to rot in obscurity. If needed, broader, more general areas could be used for all new questions, making it easier to track the less used subjects.

Ok, thanks for clarifying things...
