x+2y=-2, 4x+2y=-17

OpenStudy (idku):

take the first equation x+2y=-2, subtract 2y from both sides, substitute what you have the x equal to in the first equation into your second equation, into 4x+2y=-17. After can do it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + 2y = -2 (subtract 2y from both sides) x = -2y - 2 now sub -2y - 2 in for x in the other equation Let me get you started.. 4x + 2y = -17 4(-2y - 2) + 2y = -17 (distribute through the parenthesis and then solve for y. Once you find y, you can then sub it back into either equation to find x.
