please check if my answer is correct! Solve the inequality 7(x - 2) < -5. x < 9/7 <--- i chose this! x > 9/7 x < -9/7 x > -9/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7(x - 2) < -5 -- distribute through the parenthesis 7x - 14 < -5 -- add 14 to both sides 7x < -5 + 14 7x < 9 x < 9/7 you got it

OpenStudy (ttop0816):

thank you! but i have a question, when do i change the sign?? i know its used when the number is negative but im still not sure when to use it ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You change the sign if you are multiplying or dividing by a negative number.... Example : -5x > 10 (divide by -5) x < -2 or -x < 10 (multiply by -1 to make x positive) x > -10 understand ?

OpenStudy (ttop0816):

for example this question! Solve the inequality 3(x + 2) > 0. x < -2 or is this right?? x > -2 is this right?? x < 2 x > 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(x + 2) > 0 -- distribute 3x + 6 > 0 -- subtract 6 from both sides 3x > -6 -- divide by 3 x > -2 the sign is not changed because you did not divide/multiply by a negative number

any more questions ?

OpenStudy (ttop0816):

@kelliegirl33 no! but thank you so much!!
