12-3x=3y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you trying to solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you are, sub in zero for x to take it away and then you would get 12=3y so that would be 4 so therefore y would be 4 then you would do the same for x and that is your answer so it would look like y=4 x=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want to put it in y = mx + b form if you want it in slope intercept.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just divide by 3 and you're done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 4-x=y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or y=x-4

OpenStudy (compassionate):

The second one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I do slope then

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Slope intercept form is y = mx + b Were m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. 12-3x=3y Just solve for y by dividing by 3. 4 - x = y Now you have y = mx + b, where the slope is -x and the y-intercept is 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean do I go left one or what

OpenStudy (compassionate):

You can go left or right. Whichever one is simpler. For example: z + x = 3r. If I wanted to solve for r, I would simply divide by 3. However, if I had: z + x = 3r, and wanted to solve for z, I'd subtract x.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

It doesn't matter if you have. y = 1 or 1 = y, they have the same value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But what is -x.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

-x is simply -1. Remember, in algebra, when you just have x, it can be treated. -x, or -1, is the slope of the equation. It means, you rise 1 and run -1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K

OpenStudy (compassionate):

\[\frac{ Rise }{ Run }\] We know that, putting any number over 1 does not change it's value. And since rise over run is a fraction, we simply take the number (if it is already not in a fraction) and put 1 over it. \[-x = -\frac{ 1 }{ x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hope this helped ~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesnt matter which way y=mx+b is written its still the same.
