Based on its degree, what kind of polynomial is this? h(x)=-x^2+2x-5

hero (hero):

@ali1029, If you had a choice between linear polynomial quadratic polynomial cubic polynomial which would you pick?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In a polynomial function \(f(x)\), the degree is the highest exponent in the visible terms. So we have three terms: \(-5,\phantom{.}2x,\phantom{.}and\phantom{.}x^2,\phantom{.}\) Whichever of those three has the highest exponent number, THAT is the degree!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@DemolisionWolf hi, can you help me with this? I can't find the paper that had your notes on this :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was degree | degree name 1 Linear 2 Quadratic 3 Cubic as for name of a polynomial, it depended on how many terms are in the equation # of terms | name of polynomial 1 monomia 2 binomial 3 trinomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if it wants to know what the name of this polynomial h(x)=-x^2+2x-5 would be based on its degree, my answer would be quadratic?

hero (hero):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep ^_^, based on it's degree. if we were naming it based on it's polynomial type, it would be trinomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)

hero (hero):

Quadratic Trinomial to be more specific

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks guys! :)
