A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of opposite sides are equal in length. IF A(-1,0)B(3,8)C(3,2) and D are consecutive vertices of a parallelogram what are the coordinates of point D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@terenzreignz

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Oh no, this is geometry XD

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Can you just draw it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i actually know the answer,, its (-1,6) yeah i did it by trial and error,, i there a way where you could solve it, ?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

There is. But it only works in this case, since you have points (3,2) and (3,8) That means the other two points must also have the same x-coordinate, in this case (-1 catch me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Now, as for the coordinate, you have to look at the change, or the difference. In the other two points (3,2) and (3,8), the y coordinate increased by 6. There must be the same increase in the y-coordinates of the other two points. (-1,0) and therefore (-1, 0+6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh,, thaaanks

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Note that this was a very special case, okay? (I hate geometry -_-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, okaay

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm quite good at it ;) Just not that good at TEACHING it... D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah,, i know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you competed in international competitions too.

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

That's entirely untrue. :D I refused to join :>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahah ,,i was just testing you

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Test me all you want XD I'll do my best to help you with these geometry woes, but I probably will not be as effective as I was when it was only algebra :D
