Help asap!!!

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

In a certain town, the inches of rainfall, x, on a certain day is described by two statements: If 3 times the rainfall is increased by 2, the rainfall is still less than 26 inches. 5 plus twice the rainfall is greater than 11 inches. Part A: Create a compound inequality to represent the rainfall range. (3 points) x = 3 x 2 < 26 x = 5 x 2 > 11

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Is that right??

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok this is something I love to do so I will help with this but I will not just give the answer I am going to help you learn

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I like learning :D

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok good

OpenStudy (dobby1):

this is quiet easy you were so close on both

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

So does this mean my inequalities are not right?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

they were almost right you miss placed a few things

OpenStudy (dobby1):

when it says 3 times the rainfall or twice the rainfall that is where you mainly fell off track it says the rainfall is x which means if they put 3 times the rainfall you put 3x or if they put twice the rainfall you put 2x

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I am going to give you a practice for this so if they put 4 times the rainfall what would you put

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

multiplication right?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

right

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

shoot :D

OpenStudy (dobby1):

what is wrong?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

nothing i was saying shoot like give me the problem im ready..

OpenStudy (dobby1):

Ok so the problem I was going to give you is if they say 4 times x what would you put

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

4 * x

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Is this better? x = 3 x 2 < 26 x = 5 + 2x > 11

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

3x * 2 < 26

OpenStudy (dobby1):

no not quit to the question I posted for you when any question pops up and it says a number times a variable which is a letter in math it is always that number with the variable right next to it on the right

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

so 4x?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

and yes to the 5+2x>11 but for 3x*2<26 not quiet when they put increase by a number you add and they said increase by 2

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

increase is addition???

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

so 3x + 2 < 26

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yes that is it now do you have any answer choices?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

no\Part B: Can the rainfall in this town be 4 inches? Justify your answer by solving the inequalities in Part A. (3 points)

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

so im guessing 3x + 2 < 26 -2 -2 3x < 24 x > 8?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

And 5 + 2x > 11 -5 -5 2x > 6 /2 /2 x < 3

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok no when they say can the rainfall in this twn be 4 they want you to take the problems we just made and make the x 4 we do not use the equations to mess with each other so now our equations look like 3(4)+2<26 and 5+2(4)>11

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

12 + 2 < 26 5+8 = 13?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

where did the =13 come from?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

5 + 8

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

13 > 11

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

My test is almost timed out please help...

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yeah ok I see it

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

now the last part Part C: The average rainfall in another town is 5 inches but the actual rainfall is within 4 inches of the average. Write and solve an inequality to find the range of rainfall height in this town. (4 points)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok so now when we do all of the steps it comes out that yes 4in can be the average in the town

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

yea.

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok and I am not sure what to do on the second one

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

@iambatman come please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi :o

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

i need help with part c...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5-4< actual rainfall < 5 + 4

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

5 - 4 < 5 + 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you need the actual rainfall so you can just treat that as x, 5 - 4 < x < 5 +4

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

5 - 4 < x < 5 + 4...thats what i put as the answer?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I have to solve it too...

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

What do i plug in?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

is this good? 1 < 4 < 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No that has no meaning, just leave it as 1 < x < 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you're saying is one number is less than another there.
