(2x + 5)(x - 3) ?

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

Use F.O.I.L: F-first O-outter I-inner L-last

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

(2x + 5)(x - 3) First: multiply the first terms in each set of parentheses --> 2x(x) = 2x Outer: multiply the outer terms in each --> 2x(3) = 6x Inner: multiply the inner terms in each --> 5(x) = 5x Last: multiply the last terms in each --> 5(-3) = -15

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

Now combine your numbers all together: 2x+6x+5x-15 Now you have to combine your like terms: 2x+6x+5x=13x Answer: 13x-15

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

2x^2 - 6x + 5x - 15 minor correction @e.cociuba :)

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

Thanks :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I wonder if he will ever come back to see this... 2x^2 - 6x + 5x - 15 simplifies to 2x^2 - x - 15

OpenStudy (e.cociuba):

Probably not, considering I made a mistake lol Thanks for the correction!

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

You were pretty close :) You gave him the correct steps anyway!
