algebra? i need help? anyone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im in algebra 2 for connections if thats what u mean:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm In algebra 1 can you help me? @lexi503

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algerbra 1 is easy lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are your questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not very good at it..:/ i need help myself actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is where the party is at

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is my first yr of high school it isnt easy for me :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

party is where i am brother

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are your questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first five terms of a sequence are shown below. 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 If the nth term of this sequence is represented by f(n ), which of the following functions best represents this sequence? f(n ) = 5n - 1; n > 1 f(n ) = 5n + 1; n > 1 f(n ) = 4n - 1; n > 1 f(n ) = 4n + 1; n > 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The best way to do that is to plug in n and see if you get the proper f(n).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets look at the first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5n-1 n>1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug in see what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that? do i need to use a calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see how 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 add by 4? lol no need for calculator 5(1)-1=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you mind can you give me an answer and then explain to me why so i can figure it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jb1515gIt's 4n + 1. Look: n=1, 4(1) + 1 = 5 n=2, 4(2) + 1 = 9 n=3, 4(3) + 1 = 13 That is the pattern for the function from @jb1515g hes a genous

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was doing something else lol genious*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so im kinda getting it now so like 2,4 gives you 6 and 4(2) gives you 8 and + 1 gives you 9 :D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do my best. More important is that you understand WHY. "n" is the place in the pattern. f(n) is the answer you get when you plug that place in the pattern into the formula. So for n=1 (the first number in the patten) you would plug in 1 and get 4*1 + 1 = 5. And that matches! To check your answer, plug in 2 (representing the SECOND place in the pattern) and you get 4*2 + 1 = 9, which is the correct number in the pattern. So on and so forth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 4n + 1 is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(n ) = 4n + 1; n > 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i totally get it now, can you help me with one more? @Reaper534

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure
