Does the mathematical term SSA exist? as to side side angle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all i've heard of is: SSS (side side side) postulate SAS (side angle side)postulate ASA (angle side angle) postulate AAS (angle angle side) postulate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It refers to trigonometry when you use the law of cosines or the law of sines to find the missing variable that your professor wants. Depending on where the angle is would make this viable or not. |dw:1383704923626:dw| So the figure attached shows that depending on what angle they give you you might not be able to figure out the remaining sides/angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't remember which one is which but one uses the ratio between sides and angles to find the other ones depending on the information given.

okay in Trigonometry but not Geometry, right? :I

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I don't know Im in college so we covered this in my trig class a few semesters ago.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay. Thanks for your help. :)

@Gracy_KSL Does the mathematical term SSA exist? No. SSA is not a triangle congruence postulate. SSA, is a triangle congruence postulate would mean if any two sides of one triangle and the non-included angle of those sides were congruent to the corresponding parts of another triangle, then the triangles would have to be congruent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice explanation. That makes sense.

Directrix (directrix):

The bottom line is that with two sides and a non-included angle, you can have more than one triangle with those measures. That becomes the "Ambiguous Case" in Trigonometry - something for which you can look forward. :) |dw:1383705512470:dw|
