OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

when working with scientific notation, we can use some exponential properties, so we know that the exponent, multiplied would be 8-4=4: \[(2.3x10^{-4})(9.3x10^{8}) = ((2.3)(9.3))x10^{8-4}\] our result: \[21.39x10^{4}\], let's fix that by doing this: \[2.139x10^{5}\]

OpenStudy (ammarah):

okay so for this equation: (5.4x10^-5)(1.8x10^-1)

OpenStudy (ammarah):

it would be 5.4 times 1.8 and then -5-(-2)

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

it would be (5.4)(1.8)^-5+(-1) remember than when we multiply two numbers to a exponent, the exponents sum together.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

oh so you add the exponents

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

yes, In the previous case i put the "-" because it was the sum with a negative number.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

so for this prob you dont have to move the decimal place..

OpenStudy (ammarah):

i got 9.72x10^-6

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

if the multiplication is less than 10, then you dont have to move it.

OpenStudy (ammarah):

so this one is fine then right?????

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

totally fine :)
