Name the parts Henry Clay's resolutions in the Compromise of 1850 and what part of the country benefited from each.

@Kfins99 You seem to know some history , can you help me ?

Of course! Note that this "Compromise" was originally ONE big bill, with five parts--that's how Henry Clay designed it. But that didn't pass. After Clay's death, Stephen Douglas split it into five specific bills and lined up different coalitions to pass each. Here's a summary of the five pieces of legislation, in order of passage: 1) Texas forced to give up may western land claims -for $10 million to pay its debts New Mexico organized without any mention (and hence no prohibition) of slavery (pro-South) 2) California admitted as a free state (pro-North) 3) Utah territory organized without any mention (and hence no prohibition) of slavery (pro-South) <These three all passed on September 9, 1850> 4) strict new fugitive slave law (pro-South and VERY controversial) <passed Sept 18> 5) Slave trade abolished in Washington D.C. (pro-North) <passed Sept 20> You COULD boil this down to FOUR basic issues, by combining the resolutions organizing the New Mexico and Utah territories.

Ohh okay . If I may ask , how do you know all of this ? :c I can't remember anything about history .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It just comes to mind (: It's my favorite subject, so some of it is interesting, other stuff is not (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh . Do you have any tips on how I could retain the information ? :/ I've failed a DBA twice because I can't remember anything .

Well, for wars, (I like actions and stuff), I would recommend looking into a specific person or group, that way you know what is going on and what they are doing. Political things, eh, suck it up really, I think that's the worst part about history! xD Cultures, try to link what you do now, to what they did then. (That goes for earlier civilizations and such) Also, for U.S. History, I like linking what we are now to what we were then. We used to be a king-ruled civilization from more than 500 miles away! (Idk what the actual mileage is), but now we are controlled by a government, partially ruled by a President (Obama). It is kind of cool to play it off with what you have going on now
