A study of college tuition costs is being conducted. Ten colleges around the United States are selected at random and all of the students enrolled at those schools are selected to participate in the study. What type of sampling is this using? A. Opportunity Sampling B. Self-Selected Sampling C. Simple Random Sampling D. Cluster Sampling E. Stratified Sampling

would it be C?

@austinL

OpenStudy (austinl):

A simple random sample is a subset of individuals (a sample) chosen from a larger set (the population). Each individual is chosen randomly and entirely by chance, so that each individual has the same probability of being chosen at any stage during the sampling process. Would you say that this fits?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, now im thingking it would be D.

OpenStudy (austinl):

Cluster sampling is a sampling technique used when "natural" but relatively homogeneous groupings are evident in a statistical population. In this technique, the total population is divided into these groups (or clusters) and a simple random sample of the groups is selected. Then the required information is collected from a simple random sample of the elements within each selected group. This may be done for every element in these groups or a sub-sample of elements may be selected within each of these groups.

so I should go with cluster sampeling.

thanks!
