I was sorting out the bills for my shared house and it's causing me a mental block. I share a house with 5 other flatmates. We all need to pay £100 each into the shared house account, however £106 is coming out of my personal account for our first broadband bill. Therefore, if I paid both amounts I'd be owed £106/6 by each flatmate equalling £88.33 in total. In order to save time (and in the interest of this problem), off the top of my head I calculated that if instead of paying £100 into the shared account, I pay £11.67 (£100-£88.33), then all should be fair. Is this right or wrong?

is that a math problem or reality

Helpful. Thought the conundrum might interest a few people...

^^Also, never thought I'd see the day when I'd be called "sad" by someone on a Maths Forum...a new low....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its okay, I've had a little weep but I think I'm over it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're each supposed to pay 706/6 = 117.67 of which you've already paid 106, so yeah good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but then everyone else has only paid 100 and i've paid 117.67. It's not an important problem, but i just can't figure it out lol
