Simplify. Write each answer in standard form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(6s ^{4}+7s ^{2}+7)+(8s ^{4}-11s ^{2}+9s)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(8z ^{3}-3z ^{2}-7)-(z ^{3}-z ^{2}+9)\]

OpenStudy (ranga):

Combine like terms and write them in order from the highest degree to the lowest degree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be \[(7s ^{2}+6s ^{4}+7)+(9s+11s ^{2}8s ^{4}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (ranga):

In the following ^ denotes exponent: (6s^4 + 7s^2 + 7) + (8s^4 - 11s^2 + 9s) Combining like terms means bringing together terms that have the same exponent: (6s^4 + 8s^4) + (7s^2 - 11s^2) + 9s + 7 14s^4 - 4s^2 + 9s + 7 (notice how it is arranged from highest exponent to the lowest exponent)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And thats all I have to do?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes. That is what they mean by simplify. Write in "standard form" means writing the expression in order from the highest degree to the lowest degree.

Thank you.

OpenStudy (ranga):

you are welcome.
