OpenStudy (moongazer):

What does "derivative of a function with respect to x" mean?

OpenStudy (moongazer):

why do you say "with respect to x"?

OpenStudy (moongazer):

and what is the difference of differential and derivative? I already know that the derivative is the slope of the line tangent to a point. But what is differential?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the derivative is the slope of the function. In concern to the "with the respect to x," its just like every other equation where you should pay mind to x.

OpenStudy (moongazer):

how differential is used?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The differential is a term to describe the function at a area of local linearity. If you zoom into a function really closely it becomes a straight line. It is not differential at a modified corner, like a absolute value or a cusp.
