Terri is analyzing a circle, y2 + x2 = 36, and a linear function g(x). Will they intersect? y2 + x2 = 36 g(x) x g(x) -4 -4 -2 -2 2 2
@arabpride
Instead of calling it g(x), let's call it y so looking at the table, what do you notice about x and y?
oh so we just plug it?
well you don't need to plug it, cause you already have the values there in the table so if x=-4 and g(x)=-4 and x=-2 and d(x)=-2 what can you tell me about g(x) when x equals a particular number? ie what will g(x) be?
the same?
exactly! so x=g(x) or if we call g(x) =y we know the line will be y=x what does the line y=x look like?
straight
okay, will it go through the origin?
nope
are you sure? if the line is y=x if x=0 what will y be? if y=0 what will x be? try drawing it (or roughly sketching it)
it does but only in the positve?
it does in the negative too! so we have x=y x y 3 3 2 2 1 1 0 0 -1 -1 -2 -2 -3 -3
so it looks like this |dw:1384030683717:dw|
ok it will intersect at positive and negative
yep, so if you have a circle it'll just look like this |dw:1384030761033:dw| sorry for the terrible drawing lol
THANK YOU!!
you're welcome dear
you're wrong , Yes, at negative x-coordinates or zero .. just took the test and my answer was right .. 100% sure
