OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Could someone help me solve this?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

hartnn (hartnn):

you know the vertex form of quadratic function ?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

y = a(x - h)^2 + k I plugged in (h,k) (the vertex) and then the point to get a, and got -1 as my answer for a, but the book says I'm wrong and should've gotten -1/8 for A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello.

hartnn (hartnn):

-3 = a (5-3)^2 + 1 you got this equation ? Hi :)

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

yup! That's what I got

hartnn (hartnn):

then 'a' must be -1

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

so I put y = -1(x - 3)^2 + 1 as the answer

hartnn (hartnn):

which is correct :)

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

it should be!

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

It should be correct I mean xD

hartnn (hartnn):

they substituted incorrectly it should be (5-3)^2 they took (5-1)

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

So the book is wrong? O:

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, it is incorrect

hartnn (hartnn):

our calculation and equation are correct.

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

whoo!:DD That's awesome:3 THanks Hartnn!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
