I need Indirect and direct characterizations explained to me a little bit more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Direct Characterization is when in a drama or literature, the author directly describes the character. Indirect Characterization is where the character's personality is described based on the character's actions, speech, appearence, etc.

Hello! Well, direct characterization is when the author makes blatent statements about a character's personality(Speaking directly to you: the reader). Example| Direct: Sarah was a deceitful little girl and quite sneaky. And indirect characterization is when the author skillfully reveals to you what a characters personality is like. You read about their thoughts, their actions, their urges, how they interact with other characters and their deepest feelings. Example|Indirect: Sarah knew she was told not to touch the antique golden vase in her mothers most treasured collection, but she also knew no one was home to see her, as she grabbed the vase off the shelf. 'It's not like they'll know I touched it', she thought with a twisted grin. I don't mean to scare you, LOl. They're both saying the same thing, but porttrayed differently! =) I hope I helped.
