" Describe two events that are independent. Use math vocabulary that you have learned so far in this module to explain what it means when events are independent."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two events that are independent?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What does "independent" mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fourth of july? idependance day?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

That is when America became "independent."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

e_e" Really guys? This is the math section, not the english section.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Define: independent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like an independent variable ._.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An independent variable is basically a variable that can be any number. The dependent variable is the variable calculated from the independent variable.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes, that's the idea. Now use it on "events."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how. That is WHY I posted the question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example, I do contract work where I get paid for every hour of work I do in a given week. If I work more hours, my paycheck is bigger. So in this case the number of hours I work is the independent variable (it can, in theory, be anywhere from 0 to 40 or more hours each week), and the dependent variable is the amount on my paycheck (it is a variable too, but it directly depends on the number of hours I worked).

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

To explain what it means when events are independent you must first understand the definitions of each word.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What is an "event"?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What math vocabulary that you have learned so far in this module?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if P(A) ≠ P(A|B) then P(B) ≠ P(B|A).?
