OpenStudy (ajoy31):

"Calculate the discriminant and use it to tell whether or not the trinomial factors. Factor those that do." x^2-10x+74 I found the discriminant (-196) and that is a perfect square, so the equation should factor, right? I can't figure out how to though. What am I doing wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want to factor the above equation, u need to find 2 numbers that would give you 74 when multiplied and that gives you -10 when added

OpenStudy (ajoy31):

factors of 74 are 1x74 and 2x34, none of those add to (-10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try using quadratic formula
