Solve 5^-x = 625

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it help to know that \(5^4=625\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u can basicallt take the 4th root of 625 so your answer would be 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The only issue is that the value of x equals a negative. Simply making 4 a negative does not solve the equation. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if the x is negative u move it to the denominator to make the exponent into a positive numnber

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, to solve any problem like this:      5ˣ = 625 ... take the log of both sides     log[5ˣ] = log[625]       x • log[5] = log[625]      x = log[625] ⁄ log[5]      x = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wtf ozzman don't answer if you don't know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i read that as log 5^-x=625 from the start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@plohr the x value is negative not positive.
