@stormgirl47 In southern Mesopotamia, the area known as Sumer, the number of settlements grew from 21 to 123 between 4000 BC and 3000 BCE. The average size of settlements grew, and the first cites arose. During the third millennium, an estimated 80% of the population was urban. In Egypt, there were similar increases in the numbers of sizes of settlements at about this time. Egypt, however, remained more village based than either Mesopotamia or the Indus Valley. In the Nle valley, fewer cities developed and the population was spread more evenly.

got any ideas so far? or completely lost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

completely lost. all this is kind of just mumble jumble and its kind of hard to get a grip on and understand... sorry i dont want to make it seem like im just using you to get my work done for me but im stumped.........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. This paragraph is a little wordy and kind of boring, which might be why you're having trouble. For questions, one of my favorite methods is just taking basically anything in the paragraph and asking "why?" for instance: "Why did Egypt remain more village-based?" but i bet you could find some other ones. And if you're getting sick of asking "why" questions, try "how did it affect..." questions. (Ex: "How did the first cities arising affect people's lives?"

and i also need a main idea for the paragraph so would a good one be "many cities had an increase in population overtime as their settlements had thrived overtime"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. maybe throw in something about how different areas developed in different ways, too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!!! you are honestly being a HUGE help to me and im starting to get it now. :D :D :D :D
