Well, for starters, the war between the French and the British was beginning to put a damper on American trade. Secondly, the British began the act of impressment. In other words, the British seized American ships and forced their sailors into service on British ships. And lastly, people had kept their eyes on Canada, and Canada was under British control. Americans wanted to continue expanding.

OpenStudy (lena772):

-These were the major reasons for the War of 1812 between the US and Britain: 1. Both Britain and France were interfering with American trade and were taking American ships. 2. The United States believed that Britain still not treating it as an independent country, and was actually providing Native Americans with guns to attack American settlers. 3. The United States also wanted to take Canada from Britain, and Florida from Spain. -This war was important to the countries involved because it displayed the strength of each of their militaries. -The election of Jefferson is noteworthy for the peaceful transition of government leadership from one political party to its opposition, demonstrating that such a process could be accomplished without widespread confusion, villainy, or violence. - See more at: http://www.chacha.com/question/what-changes-occurred-during-the-jefferson-administration,-and-explain-how-the-changes-affected-our-country#sthash.YohdAl0U.dpuf
